In 2019, we were engaged by a client to design a set of European King beds for a guest room in their Colorado mountain home. Our client was looking to increase the sleeping space in the guest room, but due to the small dimensions of the room was having trouble deciding the best way to do so. After seeing the space, we decided to design a set of European King beds that when separated would serve as two twin size beds, or when pushed together would serve as one king sized bed. To fit the rustic mountain vibe of the home, we used reclaimed barnwood in varying color shades and applied it diagonally to the headboards and footboards such that it would create a chevron pattern when the two beds were side by side. To make sure the beds would stay securely in place when pushed together, we installed easy to use latches on the backs of the headboard and the footboard. We also installed carpet sliders on the bottoms of the bed posts to make it easy to move the beds around. We are happy to say that all of the barn wood was sourced locally in the Midwest by a local woodworker.
