WHEN

2018

In 2018, a Dallas client engaged FarmStrong Design to create custom tables for his Uptown penthouse condo.  Occupying a modern loft with large windows and amazing views of the Dallas skyline, our client was looking to add unique pieces to his home that augmented the space's industrial, yet modern aesthetic.  After consulting with the client on his vision, we decided to design three complementing tables (a dining table, a coffee table and a side table) that would tie together his great room and bring a unifying industrial feel throughout the space.

Dining Table

For the dining table, we collaborated with a Midwestern steel artisan to design a base that incorporated four landing gears from semi-trucks as legs. We connected the landing gear legs using custom fabricated steel pieces to create an industrial looking frame. One of our client's favorite aspects of the table base is that you can adjust the table height by raising or lowering the landing gears! To keep the aesthetic sleek, we finished the table base and matching hardware in a dark charcoal powder coat with a satin metallic appearance. For the table top, we opted to keep the design modern and sourced a custom glass top with polished rounded edges from a local Dallas vendor.

Coffee Table

For the coffee table, we designed a base constructed from Steel pipes, in keeping with the industrial aesthetic of the dining table. We finished the pipes using the same dark charcoal powder coat as the dining table base. Within the coffee table frame, we built in a lower shelf so that the client could showcase books and store magazines. For the shelves, we utilized reclaimed Douglas Fir barn-wood that we sourced from a barn in Iowa. In order to make the lower shelf visual and to keep the design modern, we used a custom sized glass top with a beveled edge for the coffee table top.

Side Table

To complement the coffee table, we designed a hydrant-inspired side table. With the help of a steel artisan in Iowa, we custom fabricated the base and finished it in the same dark charcoal powder coat. In line with the dining and coffee tables, we completed the table with a glass top. To add some soft lines to the piece, we decided to use a round table top with polished edges.

We enjoyed designing truly one-of-a-kind tables for this Dallas client and love the statement they make in his beautiful penthouse condo!
